Billu originally entitled Billu Barber is a 2009 Bollywood film by Priyadarshan, produced by Gauri Khan, with an adapted screenplay by Manisha Korde and Mushtaq Sheikh based on the script by Sreenivasan. It stars Irrfan Khan and Lara Dutta in the lead roles and Shahrukh Khan in a cameo role of a movie star. The film also features Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav and Asrani in supporting roles with guest appearances by actresses Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra. It was released on February 13, 2009.

The film is a remake of the 2007 Indian film in the Malayalam language, Kadha Parayumbol.

Plot:
Bilas Rao Pardesi (Irrfan Khan) was living in his village with his wife Bindiya (Lara Dutta) and their two children when film superstar Sahir Khan (Sharukh Khan) came into their lives and everything changed.

Production:
Director Priyadarshan cast Shahrukh Khan and Lara Dutta in pivotal roles in the film. While these roles were initially offered to Akshay Kumar and Tabu, Kumar eventually opted out of the project [4] as did Tabu.[5] The director then offered Kumar’s and Tabu’s role to Shahrukh Khan and Amisha Patel respectively, and both of them agreed to do the film. Patel also opted out of the film and sources have indicated that Juhi Chawla was signed on for the role.

In April 2008, the director announced that he had cast Lara Dutta as Billu’s wife. The cast began filming for the project on April 8, 2008 and according to Shahrukh Khan, “the film is a sweet story of friendship…quite similar to the bond shared between Krishna and Sudama.” The film also features Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone in item numbers with Shahrukh Khan.

Dev D Movie Review
The film has a bit to go before a trip to their final destination, so this is not a consideration in the technical sense of the word. But it would be too much to ask of a critic to see a movie like Dev D. cap and not with ideas that can take their number if they are not channeled in the expression. There is obviously a parallel call to refrain from writing about anything that moves much more than so far has brought little clarity to the intoxicating impressionism. But there is one path to take, so they write.

There are many levels where D Dev success. As a work of avant-garde films, the sound design, a soundtrack that makes the generation of a court , the reformulation of the genre to make India an attractive, modern and universal significance, salty dialogue, clever pictures balance between real and surreal, honest, thoughtful and satiating the time, involved a camera and a slickness that is absolutely wonderful not only because it is competing for attention in the heart of it all. I suspect that in the following months there will be a lot of comments about the actors, filmmaker and author, but the ship as this paragraph begins with a warning for a review of their wishes, I will be happy to make a few comments on politics of the film.

THANK God for the mavericks, the non-conformists, the infidels, the les enfant terribles. They make things happen when kitsch becomes king; when creativity crumbles; when formula pervades, fungus-like. Imagine a world without rule breakers. And then imagine, like Anurag Kashyap: unbridled, unbounded, ungrounded….

Indeed, Dev D is one such flight of fancy from the filmmaker that definitely defies all conventions and demolishes all moulds. Not only does it rewrite the technique of the artistic medium, with its unusual cinematography, dizzy editing, non-linear plot narration, turn-of-the-century dialogues and breathtakingly bizarre audio track (music: Amit Trivedi, lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya), it completely revises the ancient text which has already made its mark in its various avtars , the latest being the high-pitched rendition of the self-destructive hero by Shah Rukh Khan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas.

Kashyap has always been a contrarian filmmaker, consciously steering away from traditional Bollywood with films like Black Friday, Paanch, No Smoking. However, while his earlier films were an innovative search for his groove and rhythm, Dev D is like that heady cocktail which has the vodka pitched perfectly with the tang. (Incidentally, Dev D likes his vodka with thumbs up, washed down in unlimited portions, morning, noon and night!) Set against the rich rural backdrop of Punjab and Paharganj (Delhi), the film traces the self-destructive sojourn of a young, contemporary hero who mirrors the existential angst of the proverbial outsider, made legendary in the writings of Satre, Camus, Kafka, Kerouac and the ballads of Kurt Cobain.

But Dev D (Abhay Deol), unlike Devdas, isn’t a blast from the past. In his rootlessness, his lack of purpose and his complete disconnect with the real (read traditional) world, he reflects the mindset of the archetypal new millennium 20-something who doesn’t know how to blend tradition with modernity, permissiveness with orthodoxy, Oxford with Bhatinda. And so, he asks his childhood sweetheart, Paro (Mahi Gill) to send him her nude photographs through e-mail, yet can’t handle the quandary about her virginity and pronounced sexuality. In a fit of aggrieved machismo, he spurns her wild sexual adventurism which sees her cycling to the neighbouring fields at the break of dawn with a mattress meticulously rolled up on the carrier for a clandestine tryst with him. (Ever seen the bharatiya naari do this in Indian cinema? Bravo, brave new Bollywood!) Little does he realise that Paro isn’t mere putty in his hand and is unwilling to subject herself to any kind of ‘emotional atyachar’, in the name of love.

Having given vent to her anger and pain, she simply moves on while the already disconnected Dev becomes even more dysfunctional with his alcohol and drug addiction. He moves to a seedy hotel in Paharganj and ends up after a drunken stupour in young Chanda’s (Kalki Koechlin) pink and purple boudoir. Once again, Kashyap reinterprets the self-sacrificing courtesan, Chandramukhi in completely post-modern terms. Here, she is Lenny, the schoolgirl who ends up as the sex worker, Chanda, after being disowned by family and friends because she featured in a lewd MMS, that sent the whole nation in a lustful tizzy. `And they call me a slut!’ exclaims the feisty escort who attends college by day and plays Florence Nightingale in shorts by night.

The relationship between Dev and Chanda begins with hate, scorn and derision with the decadent Dev unleashing his chauvinism and me-centrism on the hooker. But when the haze of cocaine lifts, the heartburn begins, once again. After having stooped to unimaginable lows, our hero dreams of a second chance. Will he get it or is Devdas destined to waste away forever? The last we saw him was at a non-descript momo joint in the seedy by-lanes of Paharganj, waiting for nirvana. Of course, he’s all by himself, since proud little Paro’s moved on and survivor Chanda’s too strong to play doormat, willing to give up her slutty ways, for love alone.

Dev D is indeed a coming-of-age film, not merely for the protagonist, Devender Singh Dhillon, but it is a brilliant breakthrough for Bollywood too. It really doesn’t matter whether the film ends up as a box office scorcher. What matters is the fact that for the discerning viewer, Dev D is a tryst with milestone cinema, reminiscent of Baz Luhrmann’s Shakespeare-shaken-and-stirred in Romeo and Juliet. Kashyap, however, gets even more adventurous and adds a progressive flourish to both the plot and the characters which are played to perfection by the three lead players. If Mahi and Kalki are riveting new finds, assured of a long innings in cinema, then Abhay Deol adds a whole new meaning to the term `Unconventional Hero’. Manorama Six Feet Under, Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye were just teasers. Dev D is the class act from the Deol who cleverly flew over the cuckoo’s nest. Don’t miss this film which completely reinvents the musical love story, with zany numbers like ‘emosanal atyachar’, ‘saali khushi’, ‘nayan tarse’ and the rest. More importantly, it might just go down in history as one of the most radical Indian films, at least in its delineation of male and female sexuality.

Plot:
The story is set in the backdrop of a village where Geeta (Tamanna Bhatia) grows under the doted shade of her father Subramanyam (Nasser) who takes care of everything for her and she is equally attached to him. She comes to Hyderabad for her further studies and stays at her uncle Gachibowli Diwakar (Brahmanandam) house, her cousin has a group of friends and one among them is the happy and playful Siddharth (Siddharth).

He is a big Casanova among girls and though he always has a smile on his face, there is a sad past as his mother Rajyalakshmi (Ramya) is living separately from his father Prakash (Prakashraj).

Apparently both of them had a love marriage. Eventually, both Siddhu and Geeta fall in love and the time comes for Siddhu to ask Geeta’s hand in marriage. Subramanyam says that if Siddhu can unite his parents and get them together, he is willing for the proposal.

From then on starts the efforts and trials of both Siddhu and Geetha to get Prakash and Rajyalakshmi together. Whether they are successful or not and will Siddhu be in a position to marry Geeta or not forms the rest of the story.

Synopsis:
Within four years from 2008 the economy of the United States has fallen into disaster, Unemployment and crime rises, and private corporations run most prisons across the nation for profit. The movie focuses on the Terminal Island Prison, which broadcast "Death Race" to the world via a popular paysite on internet. Death Race is not only a race to the finish line, but a battle pitting car against car.

The film begins by showing a race near its end between Machine Gun Joe (Tyrese Gibson) and a famous masked driver known as Frankenstein (David Carradine in a cameo appearance), who is accompanied by a female navigator. Frank's defensive systems fail, and Joe destroys Frank's car (his navigator ejects), presumably leaving Frankenstein critically wounded, or dead.

Jensen Ames (Jason Statham) is framed for his wife's murder on the same day that the steel mill he works at closes; the murderer is actually a masked intruder that points a finger-gun at Ames as he leaves. Ames is sent to prison where he is coerced by the sadistic prison warden, Hennessey (Joan Allen) to become the new driver of Frankenstein's Ford Mustang. She tells Ames that she knows of his baby that was left in foster care, and that prisoners are freed upon winning five Death Races, but since he will take on the mask of the legendary Frankenstein, who had 4 wins at the time of his death, he will only need to win one race. The races are broken apart into three stages: Stage 1 and 2 are races in which the driver must survive, and Stage 3 you must win the race in order for it to add to the count towards freedom.

Just before the Stage 1 Race, Ames is introduced to his navigator, Case (Natalie Martinez), who happens to be Frankenstein's previous navigator. During the race, Ames see another driver, Pachenko, make the same hand gesture as the intruder that killed his wife. Three drivers are killed during Stage 1: Siad, Grimm, and Travis Colt. Ames finishes last after taking a hard hit from Machine Gun Joe.

Ames learns he is part of a plot to keep the legend of Frankenstein alive, solely for the personal profit of Hennessey. He confronts Hennessey about the driver, but instead she shows him pictures of his baby living with foster parents, asking him if he thinks he could provide for his baby better than the foster parents. Angered, he takes one of the pictures and leaves. The night before Stage 2 he makes a trip to the garage of Pachenko's team to confront him. He is beaten down by a few members of the team but is helped by a member of his garage allowing Ames to retaliate and nearly kill Pachenko. His revenge is thwarted by the prison guards telling them to save it for the race.

Ames goes into the Stage 2 race and immediately questions Case on her intentions. She tells him she was ordered to sabotage Frankenstein's defense weapons so he would not win his freedom, and thereby earn her own. Ames realizes he is not meant to survive the Death Race at all, but is meant to die so another "Frankenstein" can be brought into the prison to keep viewers paying to see the races. He seeks revenge during Stage 2 by crippling and rolling Pachenko's car allowing him to turn around drive back and to get revenge up close and personal by snapping Pachenko's neck as he crawls away from the car wreck. Five drivers remain until 14K, Carson, and Riggins are killed by 'The Dreadnought', Hennessy's secret weapon, the Dreadnaught, (an 18 wheel tank truck filled with massive machine guns) that had been in production for months. Ames and Machine Gun Joe are able to destroy The Dreadnought and finish Stage 2. Realizing that Ames knows what's going on, Hennessey has Ames' car armed with an explosive before the Stage 3 Race as insurance to make sure he does not cross the finish line alive. However, Ames devises his own scheme from an image shown by one of his crew members of a destroyed billboard in an earlier race, and tells Joe that he and Frankenstein should talk.

The Stage 3 Race begins with only two drivers remaining: "Frankenstein" and Machine Gun Joe. The race begins, and Ames soon takes the lead. However, the odds are against Ames as Hennessey rigs the track to benefit Joe. Throughout the entire lap, Joe keeps hot on Ames' tail, and as they near the beginning of the second lap, Joe preps newly added missiles and fires an RPG in Ames' direction. However, they seem to miss the car and instead hit the billboard at the first turn of the track. It is shown that the image Ames saw was a pathway to the bridge leading off the island to the mainland behind the destroyed billboard.

Ames and Joe escape onto the bridge, pursued by police cruisers and helicopters. As the cruisers close in on the two cars, Ames releases his exposed fuel tank, causing it to explode and stop the pursuing cars. Turning to her back up plan, Hennessey then orders that the explosive under Ames' car be set off, but nothing happens because Coach (Ames' crew member) had found, removed, and deactivated the bomb prior to the start of the race. Escaping past the bridge, Joe and Ames separate, and Hennessey orders the helicopters to focus on Ames, but he switches seats with Case when she tells him that Hennessey had already signed her release papers for her work, and that she owed one to the old Frankenstein. He jumps from the car leading the helicopters to believe he is still inside. Joe meets up with Ames and they board a train to escape, lamenting on Hennessey's continued existence. Soon, Ames' Mustang is stopped and "Frankenstein" is apprehended.

Later, Hennessey believes she still won after all, as a guard notifies her about presents sent to her for the record number of viewers subscribing to the Death Race. However, the explosive that was put on the Frankenstein car is inside, and Coach blows them up.

Six months later, Ames and Joe are shown working in a junkyard in Mexico, when Case unexpectedly arrives. The two men are happy to see her, and Case meets Ames' baby, Piper. The movie closes with Ames explaining that even though he knows he's far from being the best parent in the world, no one could love his baby more than he could.

Badshah Akbar was the supreme ruler of Hindustan and ruled this country fairly and justly. He wanted the Hindus and Muslims to live as a big family; encourages all religious groups to live in harmony together; and even undertakes a barefoot journey to the temple of Ambe Maa and installs a gold umbrella over Ambe Maa. He married a Hindu Rajput Yodhabai, and together they sire a son who they name Saleem. Born in a very tolerant and acceptable atmosphere, Saleem also witnesses war and perhaps this does have an affect on his mind. He then falls in love with a lowly courtesan, Anarkali. When his parents want him to get married to a woman of their choice, he refuses and wants to marry Anarkali. This angers the tolerant Akbar, who could never visualize his son marrying a mere dancing girl. He has Anarkali imprisoned, but Saleem arranges her escape and incites a open revolt against Akbar. Enraged, Akbar declares Saleem a traitor and sends his armies to crush him. Saleem is defeated and brought in chains to be sentenced by his father, but Anarkali managed to elude his armies. Akbar wants to trade Saleem’s life with that of Anarkali, but Saleem will not let anyone know where Anarkali is, and is therefore sentenced to die. Watch the climax, to the tunes of “Zindabad…Zindabad….” of this blockbuster as Saleem is tied to a tower and a huge cannon is aimed at him to blow him to bits in front of everyone present. Story:

The story begins with Arundathi (Anushka) coming to her native place Gadwal a few days prior to her marriage. Here she learns all about her grandmother, popularly referred to as Jejamma (Anushka).

Jejamma is the valiant younger daughter of the king of Gadwal samsthan. Her brother-in-law Pasupathy (Sonu Sood) is wicked person. He is a drunkard and a womanizer. Pasupathy rapes the dance teacher of Jejamma and brutally kills her. His harassed wife cannot take it any longer she commits suicide.

The young Jejamma is furious. She orders the villagers to batter Pasupathy to death. He is then tied to a horse and it drags him away from the village. Everyone assumes that Pasupathy is dead.

But Pasupathy is rescued by Aghoras. He stays with them and practices witchcraft and conquers the evil spirits. He then sets out to Gadwal to take revenge on Jejamma. But the courageous Jejamma manages to outwit him and he is buried in the same smasthan.

His Samadhi is plastered with sacred plates, threads and other religious symbols so that even his evil spirit can never come out.

But Pasupathy’s evil force spreads in the village from his grave and there is calamity in the village. The people die in large numbers and village turns into a ghost town.

Some tantriks then advise Jejamma to sacrifice her life so that she can be reborn and then take revenge on Pasupathy and also destroy his spirit completely.

The same Jejamma is now reborn after 80 years as Arundathi. The rest of the story is how Arundathi takes on the evil but powerful Pasupathy’s spirit and destroy it. She is assisted in this effort by the village Fakir played by Sayaji Shinde.

Performance:

The film is an Anushka show all the way. She looks good in both her roles that of the 1920’s Jejamma and the modern Arundathi. However, it is in her role of Jejamma with her feudal getup and attire that she really excels. Anushka is a treat to watch and she is sure to bag many such roles in future.

Sonu Sood plays the evil Pasupathy. He brings a special force to his character and he has done a brilliant job as a wicked man who wreaks havoc. Sonu Sood is not seen on screen for most of the time but his voice is heard all the time.

Sayaji Shinde is seen in an offbeat role, that of a village fakir. He does a good job and shows that he is a versatile actor and not just good at playing only villain.

The rest of the star cast including Kaikala Sathyanarayana, Annapoorna, Manorama, Ahuthi Prasad and others do their bit as required. Music by Koti is okay and the re-recoding is also adequate.

The graphics are impressive and add to the overall effect of the film. Kodi Ramakrishna must be commended for not resorting to too many of the routine scenes that one is used to seeing in horror films. He relies more on the screenplay and it clicks.

Arundathi is a well made film that will appeal to all sections of the audience (excluding kids). Remember, Arundathi has been cleared by the censor with an ‘A’ certificate.

There is this movie called FITTING MASTER in Telugu Movie Industry. The movie is being released for Sankranthi festival (Pongal in Tamilnadu) in January 2009. The producer-director EVV Satyanarayana claims that the title is very much suited to the subject line of the movie. This is his 8th Movie under the banner E V V Cinema.

The movie stars Allari Naresh and Madalasa Sharma. Allari Naresh is more known for his comic roles. Allari Naresh has already given comedy movies BLADE BABJI and BOMMANA BROTHERS CHANDANA SISTERS.

This movie FITTING MASTER is also more or less a mix of comedy and sentiments.

EXPECTATIONS

'Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye' was a number originally composed by Jatin Lalit more than a decade back for Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge. While the composer duo has split, Lalit Pandit gets behind the scenes composing for this romantic comedy cum fantasy flick that also sees guest compositions by Siddharath Coutto. Though one doesn't really carry much expectations from the soundtrack of this film due to it's low key promotion, one is still ready for some kind of surprise considering PVR Cinema being the producers here.

Shreya’s Pahle toh is dull, with a Middle Eastern twang Lalit is known for peddling, while Shaan’s Sehmi sehmi is appreciably better, with a lilting tune - but it remains underwhelming as it progresses. Shaan is wonderful in Patthron ke bane, along with Javed Akhtar’s lyrics and the aptly low-key backgrounds. A guy named Aishwarya (blame T-Series!) is credited for singing Zindagi mein, which is obsolete in all departments. Guest composer Siddarth Coutto’s 2 tracks - Anushka’s Kabhi kabhi and Caralisa’s Kab talak are comparable to sleepwalking - terribly boring. Despite an interesting plot, Mere Khwabon mein’s soundtrack is insipid.

Govinda is back in action, to make you sides split with laughter. This time, he is playing the lead role in 'Chal Chala Chal'. Apart from him, the movie has Murli Sharma, Om Puri, Manoj Joshi, Rajpal Yadav, Reema Sen and Asrani in the star cast. Directed by T.K. Rajeev Kumar, the comedy flick is all set to release on 6th February 2009. It has GP Vijay Kumar, Manna Shetty and Dharmesh Raj Kotia as the producers, with the presenter being 'K Sera Sera'. The music has been provided by Sunil Jha, Anu Malik and Anand Raj Anand.

The story of 'Chal Chala Chal' revolves around the life of a simple man - Deepak (Govinda). He has certain principles in his life, one of them being 'living honestly'. Unwilling to succumb to the corrupt system that seems to be widely prevalent, he ends up switching jobs, every now and then. His father, Omkarnathji, is the ex-principal of a private school. Not receiving his dues on leaving the school, he has been fighting a case in the court for several years, being helped in the process by Deepak. Finally, Omkarnathji wins the case and the court awards him compensation as well
The court also rules that in case the school has no money, it can give some property to Omkarnathji, in lieu of compensation. Taking advantage of the ruling, the school authorities give a run-down bus to him. Though Deepak wants to sell the bus, he ends up using it to start a transport business, acting on his father’s advice. As Deepak starts plying the bus, it encounters more mishaps than the commuters. Corruption comes in his way once again, but his faith in his principles as well as his father’s love helps him tide over the crisis. Ready to go on a roller-coaster ride, in Deepak's bus?

Farhan Akhtar shone as an actor in his debut Rock On and now he will be seen playing the lead again in his sister Zoya’s directorial debut Luck By Chance. The expectations from him are sky high but there are others in the film too who are likely to garner a lot of attention.

Farhan’s long time pal Hrithik Roshan is interestingly playing Zafar Khan in the film, and there two other big Khans as well Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan who will be acting in the same movie for the first time. But sadly they aren’t really sharing screen space in the film which also stars Konkona Sen Sharma, Isha Sharvani, Juhi Chawla, Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia.

Zoya Akhtar has said, “They are both playing cameos and both are far apart. One has a scene with Farhan and the other has a scene with Konkana.”

Hrithik Roshan’s accident on the sets of Kites made news but the bigger news is how the actor skipped going to the ‘celebrity’ hospital in Bandra to avoid registering a police complaint. The actor has cuts on his wrist normally associated with attempted suicide cases. The Roshans wanted to avoid unnecessary paperwork.

So papa Roshan called Tina Ambani, and requested her to admit his son to the family-owned and recently-opened Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital at Four Bungalows, Andheri. Ambani made the necessary arrangements for Hrithik’s medical care at the hospital.

A source close to Hrithik’s family says, “Duggu (Hrithik’s pet name) was the first patient at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. He hurt himself on the sets of Anurag Basu’s Kites at Filmistan Studios on Wednesday night.

He was shooting for an action scene in which he had to smash a windowpane with a rod and enter the room. The shot didn’t work well two times; the third time Hrithik hit the glass so hard that glass shards flew everywhere. One sliced through his wrist and blood gushed everywhere. The cut was so deep that Hrithik could see his bone.”

Though Papa Roshan wasn’t present on the sets executive producer and Hrithik’s sister Sunaina was. She took charge. “Initially, Sunaina didn’t realise how serious Hrithik’s wound was but when he cried out to her asking for help and to stop the blood gushing out, she realised he needed to be taken to a hospital for stitches.”

The source adds that Sunaina decided to take him to Lilavati Hospital in Bandra but they were advised that it might become a police case. She spoke to her dad, who in turn called Tina Ambani in Delhi who made the necessary arrangements for Hrithik’s admission.” Roshan Sr confirms, “The deep cut required 12 stitches. He won’t be shooting for the next three days till the doctor sees his wound.”

Roshan Sr also adds, “We took Hrithik to the Ambani Hospital as it was close to Filmistan Studios in Goregaon. I wanted him to reach the hospital as soon as possible. I spoke to Tina. She spoke to the doctors and made all the required arrangements. Fortunately they had opened the hospital just a day before and Hrithik was their first patient. It’s a fantastic hospital like a 7-star hotel very well thought out with 700 beds. The doctors are very efficient.”

With regard to the police case he says, “The police came for a routine enquiry and I showed them Hrithik’s report it was an accident on the sets. They were fine with that.

Synopsis:
